Day-trip to Agia Napa

Day-trip to Agia Napa

If you did not choose the Napa area for your stay in Cyprus, then you have to visit the place. A comfortable one day trip starts with a swim at Nissi Beach, then you continue on the coast road to Protaras and visit Cape Greko. At Cape Greko (or Cavo greko) there are really 3 places to visit. The Caves, the View point and the Chapel (It's a little church, if you are lucky and you arrive in the afternoon hours you can even see a wedding on a weekend day). The Chapel and the Caves are also both popular dive sites. For the afternoon its definitely worth to visit Konnos bay (3 km after Cave Grecko) one of the best beaches of Cyprus. For a light evening meal we suggest to stop at Syrene Bay.

Sea Caves

Visit the caves if you want to see divers risking their lives or perhaps try a jump yourself :-) If you are a diver, this area also has beautiful underwater creatures. If you are patient you can spot a variety of aquatic life such as stingrays, lobsters and the most popular, but menacing looking, fish the grouper. There are some dive sites around the caves that are a bit difficult to reach. Be careful though, there are some dangerous currents around this area. Even if you dont dive its worth visiting the caves just to look around.. The sea caves lie off the Ayia Napa - Protaras  coast road. Follow the road to Protaras and take the first road to Cavo Grecko. About 150m along the road there is a small dirt road with a sign post to the caves. A paved walking path goes along the shore. The shore is very rocky and sharp, take comfortable shoes with thick sole.

The view point is one of the best places to visit in Cyprus. You simply go back to the asphalt road after the caves and follow the sign which says "View point". On the way here you will see a tree on your right side, which is possibly the most photographed tree on Cyprus. The place is famous for its fabulous scenery and national park. Try to come here at sunset and you will see an amazing sight. On your left side you will see a base, it is used by the US as a radio station to the arabic world. More to this subject you will find in this pdf .

The location of this chapel gives it its charm. A popular place for getting married in Cyprus. Behind the tiny church you will find a spot from where people dive into the water. The maximum depth of the water is 23m. Marine life that can be seen here includes octopus and starfish. Its about 2 km after the view point. Follow the sign "Cape Greko".

Sirena Bay

Between Ayia Napa and Protaras, Sirena Bay is a tiny secluded beach with guesthouse and a taverna. The taverna is one of my favorites in Cyprus. A small, quirky, chilled out and rustic place, tucked away in a sleepy little bay like a secret. The atmosphere is amazing even if they have live music only occasionally. You can take a break from sunbathing and enjoy splendid views across the sea while dining under trees. The menu is quite short with tsipoura, kalamari, octopus and pork shops as main dish (all of them very good) and some side dishes but its not the food we come here for it is the atmosphere.

A secluded little Blue Flag beach at the foot of a rocky climb. Its about 2km north of Cape Greco, just follow the signs to “Mikes water sports” down a windy road. The bay is amongst Cyprus’ most picturesque beaches with fine golden sand and beautifully clear turquoise water. Lined by steep hills, the beach is sheltered from heavy winds. It is fully organized with many water sport facilities, such as paragliding, waterskiing, motor boating and jet skiing.\r\n

I love going to Konnos Bay. Compared to Agia Napa the beach here is quiet. The sand is lovely and the water is absolutely crystal clear. A great place for snorkeling as you see on the underwater photos. There is a small snack bar near to the beach for a cool drink but for lunch or dinner we suggest the local tavernas nearby. Umbrellas and floating sunbeds are available (at least before noon on a weekend). This kind of floating yellow sunbeds are only available on this beach in Cyprus.

One of Chris''s favorite things to do here is swim out to a floating raft. Here you can sunbathe or dive into crystal clear water - awesome!

Kyrenia (Greek: Kerýneia; Turkish: Girne) is a small city on the northern coast of Cyprus. Although it has been under Turkish control since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, internationally it is recognized as part of the Republic of Cyprus. Once predominantly inhabited by Greek Cypriots, it is now populated by Turkish Cypriots and settlers from Turkey. The city has a 6000 year long history, unique remains of countless civilisations, miles of natural beaches, calm sea, and a mild climate. You can find out more about the history of the town here. It has a charming tiny harbour, full of yachts and fishing boats which is framed by the colossal hulk of its Crusader castle. With the mountains in the background and the calm sea in front, the harbour has a magnificent atmosphere. The Castle houses a museum containing the remains of the world''s oldest shipwrecks.

Lot of Greek Cypriots refuse to go to the areas occupied by the Turkish troops and others do go there but just to visit. They don’t spend money and don’t go shopping. We do the same, we don’t spend money in the north of Cyprus with some exceptions...

Clubs in Agia Napa

The Castle Club

The Castle Club has 3 rooms with different types of music, a total of 14 bars and 9 resident DJs with guest DJs mainly from the UK. Music events are varied randing from Hip-Hop, House, Funky House etc. Check out their website for a night-by-night guide to whats on.

Guru Bar

The Guru Bar is a chill-out place and features outside bars and lounges in the form of bedouin tents filled with comfy chairs. Ambient music permeates all night long. There is a definite North African feel about the place and the new chef offers some excellent international cuisine and snacks.

It is located slightly off the main strip of clubs close to BedRock. Although this is a chill-out bar don't get the impression that this is where you come to after you've been to the other clubs because it closes at 2am. A better idea is to start your evening here while you wait for your friends, have something to eat and build up to dancing the night away.

The most popular on Cyprus according to foreigners and tourists alike. This fine, white sandy beach with palm trees and clear, turquoise water is beautiful. The water is warm and lovely and it's shallow too. But, it is very overcrowded in the height of summer. To get a sunbed you have to be there before 10-11 am in July and August.

This sandy beach is enormous & you can either relax on the sand or else do something more adventurous. Beach parties are going on, music is blaring from the bars on the beach but you can do snorkeling, windsurfing, jet biking, bungee jumping, paragliding etc.

If you want to have a nap after a night out choose another beach :-)
